The Program will include:
- Flag raising services will take place at the Woolwich Fire House and at the War Memorial at Boro Hall.
- Special acknowledgement of all local veterans who were killed in action and are listed on the War Memorial at Boro Hall.
- Special acknowledgement of attending veterans &/or family representatives
- Reading of names of veterans living and deceased – All Branches of Service
- Special announcement by the Woolwich Fire Company
- Several guest speakers, Community Choir, Boy Scout Troop #13, Semper Fidelis Marine Detachment, local ministers, etc.
This Annual event is organized by the Memorial Day Committee and its chairperson, Swedesboro Councilwoman, Joanna Gahrs.
“Many years ago, when the local Kiwanis Club was disbanding, (They used to have a parade or community service on Memorial Day) I was asked as a member of the then Swedesboro Business Association to carry on the tradition of honoring Veterans on Memorial Day,” Mrs. Gahrs said.
“Through the help of Ralph Baker, (chairperson of the Kiwanis Club sponsored event for many years), Gene Timmons, Vietnam Veteran, Andre Ascalon, Military Chaplain, The Woolwich Fire Company, The Greater Swedesboro Business Association members and the Memorial Day Committee’s over the years, I have been honored and privileged to chair this committee and bring attention to this community of the dedication, service and sacrifice of the veterans, local and non-local, living and deceased and their families.”
