An environmental remediation project at the former Swedesboro Manufactured Gas Plant site (located at the intersection of Auburn and High Hill Roads) has begun and will require the closure of Auburn Road (between High Hill and Center Square Roads) from June 1st through November 2015.
For more information about the project please see this South Jersey Times article from December.
A detour map can be found below which shows traffic being routed around the construction site via Township Line Road.
Statement from SJ Gas regarding the project:
South Jersey Gas has contracted with Creamer Environmental, Inc. to complete the remediation of the former Swedesboro Manufactured Gas Plant (MGP) Site located on the corner of Auburn and High Hill Roads in Swedesboro, NJ. Preliminary work started on May 14, 2015 and the project is expected to be completed by November 2015.
Preliminary site work has kicked off and is continuing through the balance of this week. Additional mobilization of equipment, staff and site preparation will continue over the next week including the start of sheet pile installation around the perimeter of the work area to stabilize the site and enable groundwater management. Excavation activity is anticipated to begin in mid-June.

South Jersey Gas is committed to working with the local community and all interested parties to complete this work. Safety and communication are of utmost importance. SJG will have a representative and security on site throughout the duration of this project.
