Longtime Swedesboro Borough Employee Passes

It is with true sadness that I need to report that Chuck Simmerman, the Borough of Swedesboro’s long time Public Works Department employee and Superintendent has passed away.  Chuck served our town for over 20 years and was a hard worker and a great person.  We offer our sincere condolences to the Simmerman family. 

Chuck followed in the footsteps of his father within the Department and between the two of them they provided over 50 years of service to Swedesboro. 

We thank Chuck for his many years of service.

Charles Henry Simmerman Jr. Elk Township, N.J. Charles Henry Simmerman, Jr. of Elk Township on Sunday, July 16, 2017. Age 59. Husband of the late Kathy (nee Hellyer) Simmerman. Son of the late Charles H. and Dorothy Ann (nee Eberhardt) Simmerman. Brother of Robert M. and Joann (nee Edwards) Simmerman of Mullica Hill. Uncle to Tara (nee Simmerman) Smith of Egg Harbor City, Stacy Simmerman of Browns Mill, and Robert Simmerman, Jr. of Mullica Hill, Christina Simmerman of Mullica Hill, and Natalie Simmerman of Mullica Hill. Also survived by many other family and friends. Born in Elmer and raised in Clayton, Charles was a resident of South Harrison before moving to Elk Township five years ago. He attended Clayton High School and was a 24 year employee with the Swedesboro Public Works Department before retiring in 2011 as supervisor.

Paul Eastlack was a positive force in Swedesboro

On behalf of the Borough of Swedesboro we would like to offer our sincere condolences to the family of Paul Eastlack who passed away this week.  Paul was a leader of Boy Scout Troop 13 for over 35 years and had a positive impact on countless young people in our community.  Paul also was a positive force in our community as a leader of the Kiwanis Club of Swedesboro.

As my next door neighbor for over 30 years I knew Paul as a person who cared deeply about his family and the Swedesboro community.  I could not have had better neighbors than Paul and Carole.  He was always a true gentleman and although he was a man of few words I enjoyed many conversations with him over the years.

Paul Eastlack is a perfect example of a person who dedicated many, many hours to his community without ever seeking attention or notoriety.  He is another member of the Greatest Generation who set an example for others to follow.  We thank him for his service to Swedesboro.

In honor of his many years of community service in Swedesboro we will lower the Borough Flags to half staff in honor of Paul Eastlack on Sunday and Monday.

Keeping Swedesboro Historic

Historic preservation is what makes are cities and towns so special. As a Borough in 2006 we joined the commitment to protect our historic preservation. With the help of the United States Certified Local Governments Program we have access to unique resources to preserve the heritage of our town and community and to promote local economic growth through tourism to our local area.

This year the program celebrates its 50th year anniversary with the National Historic Preservation Act. In honor of this significant anniversary, the National Park Service took the time to thank the communities who made this commitment and continue to throughout the years.
