Locke Avenue/CR671 to be closed for railroad-crossing repairs beginning on 7/27 in Swedesboro
Necessary safety work will require detours
(Trenton) – New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials today announced the start of a railroad crossing rehabilitation project that will require a ten-day closure and detour of Locke Avenue/CR671 between 2nd Street and Richardson Avenue in Swedesboro, Gloucester County.
Beginning at 7 a.m., Monday, July 27, until 7 a.m., Wednesday, August 5, Locke Avenue/CR671 is scheduled to be closed and detoured in both directions at the railroad crossing between 2nd Street and Richardson Avenue. Construction will remove the existing railroad crossing and replace it with a new concrete crossing, as well as new asphalt approaches for a safer and smoother railroad crossing. The following signed detours will be in place:
Locke Avenue southbound detour:
· Motorists wishing to travel southbound on Locke Avenue /CR671 will be directed to travel east on Swedesboro Road/CR322
· Turn right onto Paulsboro Road
· Turn right onto Kings Highway/CR551
· Bear right onto Auburn Road/CR 551 at the intersection of Grant Avenue/Lake Avenue
· Continue on Auburn Road/CR 551 back to CR671/Locke Avenue
Locke Avenue northbound detour:
· Motorists wishing to travel northbound on Locke Avenue/CR671 will be directed to travel east on Auburn Road/CR551
· Bear left onto Kings Highway/CR551 at the intersection of Grant Avenue/Lake Avenue
· Turn left onto Paulsboro Road
· Turn left onto Swedesboro Road/CR322 back to Locke Avenue/CR671
This federally-funded project is included within NJDOT’s railroad grade-crossing safety program, which repairs, upgrades, or removes approximately 30 crossings each year, statewide.
