“Stroll Through Swedesboro” House Walking Tour
The House Walking Tour is a self guided walking tour and can be done at any pace you wish, as there are plenty of opportunities to stop along the way to enjoy coffee and pastries, an authentic Italian meal, or do some shopping. The House Walking Tour begins in the northern end of Downtown Swedesboro at New Sweden Park, on the western side of Kings Highway. It proceeds south to Richardson Avenue, then crosses to the eastern side of Kings Highway and returns north to New Sweden Park. This tour highlights the primarily Victorian architecture of downtown homes and businesses, as well as local, state and national historic locations. Four of the eight local sites listed on the National and/or State Registers of Historic Places are located within the Borough (John C. Rulon House, Mortenson/Van Leer Log Cabin, Richardson Avenue School, and Trinity “Old Swedes” Church.*) Click here to download the House Walking Tour brochure.

“Alive With History” Cemetery Walking Tour
The Cemetery Walking Tour is also a self guided walking tour and can be done at any pace you wish. It begins in the northern end of town at Trinity “Old Swedes” Church Cemetery, and winds through three other historic cemeteries before ending at Lake Park Cemetery. Many historical figures, which impacted the development of the town and state (including a governor of New Jersey, veterans of the American Revolution, Civil War, Indian Wars and World Wars!) are spending an eternity in Swedesboro. Click here to download the Cemetery Walking Tour brochure.

On occasion, the Swedesboro-Woolwich Historical Society offers special tour opportunities, including the House Walking Tour lead by a Historic Preservation Architect (who elaborates on Swedesboro’s rich history and provides details of downtown homes and businesses, as well as local, state and national historic locations) and Guided Trolley Tours of the Borough’s cemeteries (held during special town events, lasting about two hours.)
