The Swedesboro-Woolwich Township Environmental Commission held a ‘Pop-Up’ Clean up event to help keep Swedesboro Lake Park beautiful last weekend. It was a tremendous success.

The Borough of Swedesboro lowered the lake so residents could tend to their lakefront properties.  The Environmental Commission also cleaned around the edges of the lake removing debris.

Groups, families and individuals were encouraged to participate in this fun volunteer event with free food, drinks and giveaways.

The Swedesboro/Woolwich Joint Environmental Commission was formed in 2013 when the Swedesboro Environmental Commission joined with the Woolwich Township Environmental Commission in an effort to better protect the development and/or use of natural resources including water sources, located within the territorial limits of the Borough of Swedesboro and Woolwich Township.

Forever home found.  No longer having to endure an asphalt parking lot as its home, this gazebo will now enjoy the open space of the Swedesboro Auction Lot and its residents.   Although, the gazebo was long ago donated by Stevens Management, Pennsauken, NJ; finding a company willing to move the gazebo from Pureland Industrial Park to the Auction Lot took some time.

The move was finally completed on this August by Cioffi’s Towing, Maple Shade, NJ along with the ground work by our very own Public Works.  Until we find a volunteer carpenter ready and willing to build benches inside (hint, hint), you will need to bring your own chair to enjoy the gazebo at the corner of Locke Avenue and Fow Avenue.

Additionally, plans are being made to spruce up the area surrounding the gazebo as well as the Auction Lot in general so we are putting a shout out to all gardeners.  Please keep  the Auction Lot in mind as you divide your perennials this Fall/Spring and find you have an excess of hosta’s, black eyed Susan’s, phlox and any other perennials.

A large variety of popular events and activities in the Swedesboro/Woolwich Community have one thing in common, they are organized and run by a small group of volunteers.  S/W Parks and Recreation is one such group of volunteers that is looking to fill a number of empty Swedesboro positions on its committee.

It is important that committees such as S/W Parks and Recreation have a good group of volunteers to help plan, organize and run these events and activities for our residents!
